A NEW YEAR - A NEW BLOG!

It is the beginning of a new year and that brings new possibilities, opportunities a brand new BLOG!  Welcome to my blog.  I write this first blog from high up at the Drakensberg Mountains where the serenity is peaceful, beauty beyond perfection and a calm that is soothing.  Such is nature’s glory upon us.

Last year (2017) brought an exciting opportunity for me.  I embraced a new challenge by venturing into the world of business.  Those in my close circle know that I grew up in the world of business as my parents have nourished, maintained and grown a successful business for over four decades.

My niche came from the foundation of living in Krishna Consciousness – a lifestyle that promotes vegetarianism, meditation and simple living with higher thinking.  This coupled with a passion for youth and women empowerment and promoting sustainable living did the trick for me.  Hence, the brand V-Earth came to life, where we believe in conscious living, conscious fashion, conscious skin care and through all of these ‘conscious’ living techniques comes empowering women through outreach initiatives.

FASHION AND TEXTILE

When it comes to fashion I have been asked the question, “What is the difference between cotton and organic cotton?” The answer is simple – organic cotton is that which is harvested without any influence of pesticide or harmful chemicals to the crop.  The batch is under special care and threads are weaved in a completely natural, chemical free environment.  As we know, what we wear enhances our consciousness, therefore wearing organic cotton synergises the energy between the body, mind and spirit.

Here is what to look for when choosing your garments:

  1.         Read labels.  This cannot be more emphasised – as we read food labels, we should also look at the label on garments.  This contains the fabric that has been used whether polyester, satin or other.
  2.        Look at the dyes that are used.  Is it natural dyes or chemically soluable dyes? A reputable supplier will have this labelled on the garment.

Benefits of wearing cotton (organic cotton certainly a better bet):

  1.         Moisture control: Helps eliminate moisture build-up between the clothes you wear and your skin.  This keeps you cool.
  2.        All weather: Ideal to wear for summer weather conditions; but can be insulating for the winter season also.
  3.        Hypo-allergic:  This is why cotton garments are recommended for babies.  What to speak of wearing organic cotton as the benefits are greater?  This fabric wards of skin irritation. Therefore cotton is the preferred fabric in medicinal products such as bandages etc.
  4.        Less toxic:  Since it is natural fibre, it is less toxic than synthetic fibre.  The less natural the fabric, the worst the effect on the skin.  Rayon, polyester, nylon fabrics are made with toxic chemical and this is absorbed by the body.
  5.        Comfort : We all look for comfort and cotton stands out as the most comfortable fabric.  This is due to its durability, versatility and ability to keep one cool and warm.
